8/23/2010 - PopRally: an Evening of Skate Videos

In honor of the MoMA retrospective Spike Jonze: The First 80 Years, PopRally has invited producer and photographer Patrick O’Dell (of Epicly Later’d) to create a special compilation of seminal skateboard videos from the 1980s to today. Jonze, whose own contributions to the genre will be featured, notes that, “Skate videos have been a big influence and a big part of what I’ve done for a long time. They are how I got into film, actually.” This unique screening is followed by a conversation with legendary skateboarders and filmmakers, including Jonze, Lance Mountain, Greg Hunt, Jake Phelps, Ty Evans, and other surprise guests.

8/20/2010 - Hack Job

Hack Job is a project that our friends over at Boom just started with Converse Skateboarding to create skateboards out of anything that you can get your hands on. This project is open to anyone in any country: skateboarders, non-skateboarders, art students, strippers, cheerleaders, world leaders, gas station attendants, hobbits, and gnomes.

Here’s what you gotta do:

1. Locate some building materials. Keep in mind your skateboard can be functional or totally non-functional. This means you could use wood, but you could also use pancakes, or human hair!

2. Build a skateboard out of your materials.

3. Snap a photo of your amazing creation. If it is ride-able, shoot a video of yourself riding it! (Jump to the :30 mark of this amazing video to see an electric guitar turned into a skateboard!!!)

4. E-mail your photo and/or a youtube link to: submit@booooooom.comwith “Hack Job” in the subject line.

5. High-five yourself.

There will be an online gallery, and as a little bonus, my friends atConverse will give away shoes to the 5 most creative submissions!

Deadline for submissions: September 10th 2010.
