is a beast living and working out of NY. You may have most recently seen the pearls he put all over Lady Gaga’s body and face. I have a feeling that the sexual contexts of pearls on a woman’s face wasn’t completely coincidental either. Koh has made a career out of combining sex, glamour, and excriment to a harmonious fulcrum that brings on the question of what beauty is. Similar to the way Andre Surrano challenges the true definition of art by intertwining the lines of art, pornography and straight up shit, Koh has made a habit of literally making beautry from dirt. He currently has work at the Objects that love you back show and next show will “Skin Fruit”, Selections from the Dakis Joannou Collection, curated by Jeff Koons on March 2nd - June 6th, 2010 at the New Museum. Went to this exhibition opening this past Saturday over at 211 Elizabeth. The show featured “Destroyer” and young gun art beast, Lucien Marc Smith, along with a slew of other talented artist. Some obscure, some extremely well established. ( Jeff Koons & Kiki Smith ) While there I bumped into fellow Bridgerunner and artist Jack Greer, saw the infamous Arab Parrot leanin, and a slew of honey’s lookin extra good for the low key opening. These are just some pics from a disposable. More pics of the show to come…
Mark Evans does some amazing shit. He takes large sheets of leather and etches out high contrast images on them with knives, picks, and random tools. It’s really kind of insane the detail he gets. But.. I think he’s probably kinda cocky and has bad taste in clothes. See for yourself…
A little Strange Notes Check-In with one of my favorite dudes ever. The notoriously short and most gnarliest, Peter Hewitt. Peep this dudes work in the new Beauty & The Beast 2.
It’s not often that I’m completely blown by an artist, but Favio Viale has done it. Straight up dropped my jaw like a bag a bricks. A lot of art is usually very conceptually driven, but Fabios work is both conceptual, AND he shows off a tremendeous amount of control and talent for the medium he works with . Marble. First off, this dude made a boat out of marble that actually was bouyant and functional. Beast! I don’t know if you’ve ever picked up a slab of marble before, but its NOT light. At all. Like no. It makes me love the way this guy thinks. Its almost completely pointless, but makes so much sense at the same time. From there he also renders a variety of textures and materials all out of marble, all with a level precision and replication that one’s eye is completely fooled until you touch the piece. From styrofoam, to tissue, to tires. The dude kills. A beautiful mix of traditional craftsmanship and conceptual exploration. See more of this beasts work at his website.
Acne is the creative collective genius behind tons of well produced projects, ranging from clothing design to tv commercial production. Gotta love the swedish with their innate eye for design and creativity. Seriously everything they touch looks so clean and thought out, everything looks nothing less than apetizing to a consumers eye. Gotta do it all to run it all, so that’s what they do. From great art direction for their beautiful bi-annual culture magazine, to producing intersting viral advertising campaigns like the Doritos Super Bowl 2010 campaign and the one shown below, they kill it with the final outcome. I’m keepin tabs on this crew.
If your wondering whats good in the upcoming art scene, this is a good start. The Still House is a collective of young gun artists who have banded together to get their art out there with some impressive work. Shout out to Bridge Runner and crony, Jack Greer for his participation in the whole thing. Swing by Rental gallery and have a look at all the great work by these up and coming beasts.

You won’t find Dan Phillips on the cover of Dwell Magazine, or any magazine for that matter. He lays low. He also designs and builds houses completely out of reclaimed or recycled materials. Seriously the only thing that he might pay for is the land. Love this shit.
