Festo, a dutch robotics design company, has made a beautiful mix of engineering and design in one of their latest projects involving some flying penguins. From what I could grasp from the non english translated site, they are helium filled robotic autonomous flying penguins. In otherwords the prettiest auto run flying robots I’ve seen in some time.. I can’t tell if its the natural movements of the robots that blow my mind or the actual idea of these metal objects gracefully flying around on there own, but they are awe inspired nonetheless. The last time i saw something this interesting was when Theo Jensen was making some noise on the interweb for his wind powered monsters. Though my one qualm is their music choice for this video. It sounds like Kenny G’s experimental album, i probably would’ve gone with something like this song. Anyways, If you dig these penguins make sure to also check out the aqua penguins also, which are equally as mesmerizing, as well as the other interesting projects worked on at Festo.
