Dylan’s Modern Times album sure did get mixed reviews from the press. I got the album and honestly have kind of slept on it since. It wasn’t until last night that I found out about this video that Dylan did for the song “When the Deal Goes Down” which captures the beautiful Scarlett Johansson acting as a character in focus. The video, shot in beautiful Super 8 captures Ms. Johansson’s ability to recreate a different time, not just a Woody Allen role. The song, is based on the melody of “Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of the Day)”, a signature song for Bing Crosby.
That video also let me to find these two others. Here is Dylan’s attempt at a good-time Christmas video. Song is unique, but how fucking weird does Dylan look with a straight grey wig?
And finally, the video for “Thunder on the Mountain” shows almost a time capsule of some of Dylan’s live performances and life on the road. Kind of amazing seeing him play with the Rolling Thunder Revue. Definitely worth looking at if you’re a Dylan fan.
