First of all, if you don’t know who Marc Newson is, then you should go ahead and click here. This Sydney born and London based designer of just about everything was asked nearly a decade ago to re-think the way Ford looked at cars, and he did just that.

“A re-look at the Ford concept car that was unveiled ten years ago! Back in 1999, then ford’s head of design, J.Mays decided to get a designer outside of the company on a concept car. He chose Marc Newson who had been designing furniture and products but never designed a car before. Marc Newson’s design was a simple and affordable small car. Built from carbon fibre, it has some interesting features like the rear doors are hinged at the back that four wide opening doors for easy entrance and egress. The trunk functioned as a pull out drawer instead of a lift up lid. Newson named the car 021c after his favorite Pantone color.” -Design Yearbook

However, when it was released, everyone hated it. It looked too modern for 1999. Of course now, it looks like the coolest thing ever on the market, too bad it’s not on the market. But it’s a nice little thing to have in your portfolio.
